THIS IS SO FUCKING PROBLEMATIC I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN.
WOW. JUST WOW.

I seriously have never understood how people could voluntarily starve themselves, especially for something like looks.
I love food way way way too much to ever do that on purpose, and I love my body too much for that, too, because when I don’t eat I feel like shit.
Also, I hope this person knows that starving themselves isn’t going to change their bone structure. If you have wide-set hip bones, you will have wide hips. Period.

I don’t know if voluntary is the right word to use to describe an eating disorder.

I’m not referring to eating disorders.

Starving yourself is a form of disordered eating.  Still isn’t totally voluntary.

Voluntarily starving yourself is not voluntary?

Someone go tell Ghandi that he had disordered eating when he was hunger striking QUICK!

Eating disorders aren’t a matter of choice! It’s something that you do, but it’s not a matter of choice. The rituals that I did when my OCD was at it’s worst might have seemed like something I could have chosen, but they really weren’t. Though I understand ED is a different experience, the lack of choice is analagous.
ALSO, OP go fuck yourself for saying people of size can’t be andro. Yeah, it’s difficult, but as a curvy person I can still pull it off. Also, androgyny isn’t a “look” or a “trend” it’s an identity you fuckwad. So go suck a fuck.

Wow. I don’t even know where to begin.
First of all, thank you cuntofdoom for putting forth the most concrete criticism of this post. I tried to read through all the discussions on the subject, and they were very unclear and hard to follow. I will discuss specifically the things cuntofdoom said.
I must also mention that I am neither androgynous nor particularly fat/curvy/person of size, nor have I ever had an eating disorder, so my standpoint on these issues are not very valid.  Still, I will analyze this the best I can, although I am very, very open to criticism.
First of all, about curvy androgynous people: I discussed here why the view that androgyny means being “boyish” is sexist. There are many dimensions to being androgynous, and having a “male-appearing” body is not a necessary part of it.
Of course, there’s also the huge issue of fatphobia and sizism. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about the subject to talk about it in length.
About androgyny being a “look”.  As I mentioned earlier, I am not androgynous, so it’s not my place to speak. However, IME, androgyny can either be a gender-identity, a gender-presentation, or anything in between (most often the latter).  Am I incorrect?
The biggest issue discussed here, however, is the appropriation of eating disorders. I completely agree with everything everyone has said about this issue. It’s a huge problem that people should avoid, and it’s important that people understand that eating disorders are involuntary illnesses rather than trivializing the experiences of people with eating disorders.
However, I feel like we’ve been passing judgment too fast on the person in question. Perhaps they do have or are developing an eating disorder, and perhaps their starving is not as voluntary as they say. Like I said, don’t take my word for it, as someone who doesn’t have and has never had an eating disorder, I could be greatly misinterpreting the whole thing.
I would love for conversation on this post to continue, as I am hoping to learn more about and understand this topic better.
