Queersecrets Sucks

The biggest issue discussed here, however, is the appropriation of eating disorders. I completely agree with everything everyone has said about this issue. It’s a huge problem that people should avoid, and it’s important that people understand that eating disorders are involuntary illnesses rather than trivializing the experiences of people with eating disorders.
However, I feel like we’ve been passing judgment too fast on the person in question. Perhaps they do have or are developing an eating disorder, and perhaps their starving is not as voluntary as they say. Like I said, don’t take my word for it, as someone who doesn’t have and has never had an eating disorder, I could be greatly misinterpreting the whole thing.
I would love for conversation on this post to continue, as I am hoping to learn more about and understand this topic better.

I think a lot of it may boil down to poor word choice. This comes off as I’m doing X to get to Y. As in something that is purposeful: I’m starving myself to get skinny and androgynous. However, I think something like “I have such issues with A,B,C of my body that I’ve developed poor eating habits,” would be more concise.
Semantics is key!
